Garrett County Public Schools would like to welcome Matthew Paugh as the newest member of the Board of Education.  He was appointed by the county commissioners to complete the unexpired term of elected member, Dr. Donald Forrester, who resigned on September 30, 2013.  Matthew will be sworn in as a member at the next Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, November 12th.  Board President Cynthia Downton stated, "Mr. Paugh has become a familiar face at Board of Education monthly meetings, and we encourage that type of community involvement.  I feel he has a good grasp of the procedure used at our meetings, and I look forward to increasing his knowledge of our stellar students and staff as he becomes even more familiar with our system in the weeks to come. He is a welcome addition to our Garrett County Board."

Mr. Paugh is employed as Assistant Vice President and Market Manager with Susquehanna Bank.  He  holds a Bachelor of Arts from Messiah College, and a Master of Divinity from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.  He is currently the Mayor of the Town of Kitzmiller. However, he is preparing to relinquish that role in order to perform the duties of filling Dr. Forrester's seat. He is required to do so according to Article 35 of Maryland's Constitution and Declaration of Rights governing provisions regarding elected/appointed officials.
