Garrett College and Garrett County Public Schools Hosts Annual College Expo
The annual Garrett County Mountain Top College Expo was held last week in Gymnasium of the Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) on the Garrett College Campus. The event, which opened with a financial aid information session, featured representative from over 40 educational institutions who provided information to several hundred Garrett County high school students and their parents.
The purpose of the Expo, which is coordinated by Garrett College and the Garrett County Public Schools, is to assist students in gathering information directly from a wide variety of colleges, universities, and trade schools so that they can make informed decisions about post secondary education options.
Dr. Janet Wilson, Superintendent of Garrett County Schools and Dr. Phil Lauver, Supervisor of Pupil Services for Garrett County Public Schools (pictured above), were among those who attended the event. “We had an excellent College Expo this year with an increase in both the number of colleges, universities, and trade schools represented, and in the attendance of students and parents. We appreciate collaborating with Garrett College in hosting this event, and in having the continual support of the members of our school board, and of the community, business partners and Garrett College Foundation who help to support the Expo and scholarships,” Dr. Lauver said.
During the Expo several scholarships were awarded to students in attendance. Scholarship winners included, Kelsey Beckman of Southern High School, Deanna Delaney of Northern High School, Leah Moran, of Southern High School, Brianna Opel of Northern High School, Taylor Swift of Southern High School, and Amber Miller a graduate of Northern High School.
