The Garrett County Community comes together to help Crellin Elementary School update its grounds, with a major focus on the playground areas. The initiative involved removing pea gravel from around the playground areas and replacing it with wood chips. This change will create an ADA-accessible area for those in need. Additionally, there was painting, staining, and replacing of decking, and an overhaul of the flowerbed in the front of the school.
Many local businesses contributed to the project to make it happen, a project that was coordinated in part by the PTO. Students from Southern Garrett High School’s carpentry class were on-site assisting with the project, as were team members from the Oakland Lowe’s store. Additionally, many parents, community members, students, and staff helped with the project.
Work on the project began Thursday, May 19, 2022, and is expected to finish over the weekend.
