Friendsville Elementary School Honors Veterans

Last Updated on Dec 31, 2017 at 2:18pm | Friendsville Elementary School

Friendsville Elementary School honored its Veterans by collecting donations for the new memorial to be built in their honor in Friendsville.

As stated by the Veterans Memorial Project Committee, “This memorial will have a large center piece that will have images of the six young soldiers from the town of Friendsville who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country during the Vietnam War.”

Friendsville students had a contest to see which class could collect the most money for this project. Students did this to coincide with the character trait “caring and giving” for the months of November and December.

Parents and community members could purchase a brick for the memorial to honor a loved one who had served in the military.

During the December Pep Assembly, members of the Friendsville Veterans Memorial attended, and they were handed a check for a grand total of $2,161.13. Since that meeting, another $220.00 was collected making the total $2,381.13.

Mr. James Friend, Principal, gave the students a challenge to have a school-wide party for their great work or give the money to the Veterans. The students voted on giving the money to the Veterans Committee. The students displayed the true character trait of “caring and giving”!
