Food and Nutrition Services

Food & Nutrition Services

GCPS Food and Nutrition Services will be transitioning from the current (pandemic) food service to our summer feeding plan beginning in July. Due to state and federal regulations, the public will notice changes that begin on July 1st and additional modifications beginning on July 6th. The final delivery for three meals and a snack will be Tuesday, June 30th. Along with the three meals and snack to be distributed on that date, GCPS will also be distributing breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday on Tuesday, June 30. There will be no meal delivery on July 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Beginning July 6th, GCPS will be transitioning into the Summer Food Service Program (SFS). With the transition into Summer Food Service, families need to be advised of changes in the current operations. The Dennett Road site will be moving to the rear parking lot at Broad Ford Elementary School (entry from Broad Ford Road) at the same distribution time, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. The Deer Park site at Frank Custer Drive will change service times to 12:20 PM – 12:40 PM.

Also beginning the week of July 6th, SFS will be distributing Monday thru Friday. Due to changes in programs, SFS will be distributing breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, along with the weekend breakfasts and lunches to be provided on Fridays (beginning July 10th). SFS will distribute snacks and suppers for seven days, once a week, at each site. The delivery day for each site will remain the same throughout the summer. The locations are near the lunch sites. The sites cannot be exactly the same as the lunch sites due to program regulations.

Parents may still pick up meals without the child(ren) being present. Meals must be eaten off site. Please continue to wear a mask for pickup. In order to receive these meals, participating children are not required to be Garrett County residents, but must be 18 years old or younger. The last day for meal distribution will be August 21st. All cafeterias in Garrett County Public Schools have computerized Point of Sale. To pay for purchases, students enter their Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) and proceed to the cashier. Students pay for purchases using cash or using money placed "On Account". If a student cannot remember their PIN the cafeteria staff will be able to give it to them. Please help your child to learn this number and teach them that they should not share the number with anyone, as it is the access to their account.

Students who properly enter their number when purchasing their meal move more quickly through the service line.

Parents have the option of sending cash or check with their student(s) for deposit, however, we strongly encourage parents to monitor, view and fund students account by logging on to mySchoolBucks.com We encourage parents to also monitor their child’s cafeteria activity and account balances throughout the year. Using this tool to do so makes it easier than ever.

Depositing funds on account will allow students to purchase breakfast, lunch or any a la carte item.

Benefits of placing money "On Account"

  • Safe- the PIN ensures only the one student can access the account.
  • Convenient- money cannot be lost or forgotten in the morning rush.
  • Fast- cafeteria lines move more quickly so there's plenty of time to eat.
  • Monitored- see the secure account balance anytime on mySchoolBucks.com
  • Peace of Mind- the auto replenish feature on MySchoolBucks.com ensures money for meals is always there for the student.
