PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, public schools are the backbone of our democracy, supporting children of all races and cultures in their individual dreams by providing them the tools needed to maintain our nation’s precious values of freedom, civility, and equality; and

WHEREAS, by providing an educational environment which integrates both practical skills and broader intellectual abilities with connections to the real world, schools give young Americans hope for, and access to, a productive future; and

WHEREAS, education employees - custodians, maintenance staff, teachers, assistants, school nurses, bus drivers, food service staff, secretaries, and administrators - are Meeting the Challenges daily to assure Achievement for Each Student; and

WHEREAS, school and community partnerships bring together adults and children, educators and volunteers, business leaders and elected officials to celebrate the strides and to strengthen the process of teaching and learning;

NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Board of Education of Garrett County, do hereby salute the efforts of our education employees and proclaim November 16-22, 2003 as the 82nd annual observance of

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK
